I have the honour to inform Your Lordship that the quotation for a Bill on London at sight in the Daily Press of this day's date is three Shillings and ninepence one farthing.
In my despatch No. 21 of the 27th February 1876, reverting to the Subject in the case of the men who joined the force on the supposition that their pay if issued at 4/2 per dollar would be Equivalent to £100 per annum, I suggested that possibly Your Lordship with a view to sparing the Crown Agents the trouble which the drawing of portions of salaries through their Agency would Entail upon those gentlemen would allow Bank Orders to be issued here to Applicants for home remittance at Exchange of the day, a vote being taken at the close of the year for the loss caused from time to time by the fluctuating Exchanges.
Under any circumstance however, whether Bank Orders are given by the Government here to officers at Exchange of the day for family and other remittances or whether orders are given on the Crown Agents, I would request Your Lordship to authorize the Governor to grant such application, without previous reference to Your Lordship.
